Providing quality, evidenced-based, continuing education.

About FCM

Mission Statement

The mission of the Continuing Education Program is to provide quality, evidenced-based, continuing education (CME, CNE, and CPE) to a specialty for physicians, nurses and pharmacists and other healthcare providers who are needing continuing education that is convenient in time and easily accessible, and that will improve their current and future practices as well as delegated functions.  FCM both directly provides and jointly provides activities with organizations that qualify and agree to uphold the standards of FCM as set forth by the ACCME, ACPE and ANCC, including those of disclosure and conflict of interest resolution.

While we support single profession accreditation our bigger goal lies in our ability to create healthcare teams for change. To work with organizations vested in a team approach with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other allied health professions to facilitate improvements in patient outcomes. We are vested in the idea that we all learn from each other and the more we work together the greater the chance for improvement in skills, strategies, and outcomes.

To fulfill the mission of evidence-based course content, FCM peer reviews all potential lectures and programs to ensure that the content is science-based with published research and has content validity, balanced viewpoints, and free of commercial bias.

FCM conducts outcome studies of all activities and expected results are articulated in terms of changes in competence, performance, and patient outcomes for the team. Evidenced-based outcomes expected of participants who complete FCM-provided programs include.

  • Enhanced team-based learning as a result of current continuing education in broad-based knowledge;
  • Effective and accurate treatment of diagnosed conditions, e.g. accurate and appropriate pharmacotherapy leading to decrease in adverse responses by patients;
  • Improved patient and/or community health or well-being;
  • Improvements in technique and skills strategy based on current literature to enhance the work of the team and improve patient outcomes;
  • Continuous quality improvement related to information gathering and analyzing of data for improving outcomes and follow up.
